Bursa Metropolitan Municipality took an important step to revive the production of chestnuts, one of the important agricultural products of the city, to identify the problems in the sector on site and to develop solutions for these problems. In this context, a comprehensive consultation meeting was held with the participation of chestnut producers.

Producers from Bursa's major chestnut production centers such as Cumalıkızık, Fidyekızık and Babasultanlı attended the meeting hosted by the Metropolitan Municipality Rural Services Department in Fidyekızık Neighborhood. In the meeting, which took place in a friendly atmosphere, current problems encountered in chestnut production were openly discussed and solution proposals for these problems were discussed in detail.

In this important meeting with producers, the strengths and weaknesses of chestnut production, the opportunities the sector has and the potential threats it faces were determined. One of the main agenda items of the meeting was the revival of chestnut production, which has decreased significantly in recent years due to various diseases. The development of production, increasing productivity and ensuring the long-term sustainability of chestnut production were also meticulously emphasized.

At the meeting, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Rural Services Department Head Ayhan Sarsıcı, who listened carefully to the chestnut producers’ problems and demands, underlined the support provided by Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey to the producers. Sarsıcı said, “We support our producers in line with the instructions of our Mayor Mustafa Bozbey and this support will continue to increase.” This statement was welcomed by the chestnut producers and was evaluated as an important indicator of the Metropolitan Municipality’s interest in the sector. It is expected that this consultation meeting will pave the way for more concrete steps to be taken for the future of chestnut production in Bursa.
