Alstom Delivers Next-Generation APM Vehicles to Atlanta Airport

Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, today announced the delivery of the first of 29 next-generation Innovia APM R vehicles to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The delivery is part of a significant project totaling US$87 million, the largest automated people mover (APM) replacement contract in Alstom’s history and the second largest APM project in the Americas.

This latest delivery brings Alstom’s Innovia APM vehicle order for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to 63 units in total. Manufactured in the USA, these new-generation vehicles aim to provide passengers with a more reliable and uninterrupted transportation service at the world’s busiest airport by significantly reducing the risk of in-service failures in the current system.

Atlanta Airport's Capacity to Increase

Consistently ranked as the world’s busiest airport by passenger traffic, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport served an incredible 2024 million passengers in 108. Alstom’s unique expertise in integrated rail systems will ensure a smooth transition to this new generation of APM vehicles and help the airport meet increasing passenger demands.

“For the past 40 years, Alstom has proudly partnered with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to transport passengers at one of the world’s busiest airports,” said Michael Keroullé, President, Alstom Americas, regarding this important delivery. “Alstom’s new Innovia APM vehicles will help the airport increase capacity, support its expansion and enable passengers to seamlessly embark on their next adventure or return home to their families.”

Support for the “Plane Train” Expansion Project

The additional APM vehicles delivered will provide significant support to the “Plane Train” expansion project, which was launched to meet the ever-increasing number of passengers at the airport. This expansion project will increase the passenger carrying capacity of the existing system and improve the connections between different modes of transport, providing a more seamless and efficient travel experience for passengers.

New Generation Vehicles Are Made in the USA

The new Innovia APM R trains are manufactured with state-of-the-art technology in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, Alstom’s leading APM manufacturing center in North America. These modern vehicles feature key features such as greater energy efficiency, higher top speeds and a lightweight aluminum chassis that meet industry standards for safety and sustainability. Each Innovia vehicle can carry up to 900 passengers per train.
