
The historical bread, which was unearthed during excavations at Küllüoba Mound, one of the most important archaeological sites in Eskişehir, and which dates back approximately 5000 years, is being revived under the leadership of Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality. Produced with a special recipe developed based on archaeological findings, “Küllüoba Bread” was offered for sale at Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Producers’ Markets for 50 TL.
Supporting the excavation work, Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality and Halk Ekmek A.Ş., one of the municipality’s affiliates, took an important step in order to keep the cultural heritage alive and reach the masses. The unique bread, which dates back to the Early Bronze Age (3200 BC) and is the oldest bread sample found baked in Anatolia, has now been reproduced with a special recipe.
This historical bread, found in the Küllüoba excavations led by Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University Archaeology Department Academician Prof. Dr. Murat Türkteki and supported by Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, has attracted great interest both in the scientific world and the public.
“Küllüoba Bread”, produced with a special recipe based on archaeological findings, was offered for sale at Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Producers Markets for 50 TL.
Unlike today's bread form, Küllüoba bread, which attracts attention with its bun-like form and is produced with low gluten and from Kavılca, Horasan, Gacer and lentil flour ground in a stone mill, does not contain preservatives.
By using natural materials in the production process, the historical texture and structure of the bread was preserved. In addition, informative content about the discovery of bread and Küllüoba Mound was included on the product packaging.
Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce said, “Küllüoba bread is not just a food product, it is a cultural heritage that extends from the past to the present. It is our duty to keep this valuable finding alive both scientifically and in social memory. We are very happy to introduce this special bread to our people.”
