Having strived for 37 years to ensure sufficient concrete life and correct concrete applications in construction in Türkiye, the Turkish Ready-Mixed Concrete Association (THBB) elected its new Board of Directors and Board of Auditors at its 12th Ordinary General Assembly held on April 2025, 38. The new Board of Directors elected at the General Assembly held in Istanbul re-elected Yavuz Işık as the Chairman of the Board of Directors.
The 38th Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of the Turkish Ready-Mixed Concrete Association (THBB), where the new Board of Directors and Auditors were elected, was held on April 12, 2025 at THBB's headquarters in Kavacık, Istanbul. Speaking at the General Assembly, Yavuz Işık, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Ready-Mixed Concrete Association (THBB), stated that the Turkish Ready-Mixed Concrete Association is a very important sectoral organization that successfully represents the direction of the ready-mixed concrete sector as well as the global, national and international platforms, and said, "Our Association, one of the most established sectoral people in our country, has been working with all its might to grow for 37 years."
In 2024, the construction sector experienced a high growth of 9,3 percent.
THBB President Yavuz Işık, who evaluated 2024 in his speech, said, “The Turkish economy grew by 2024 percent in 3,2. This rate is the lowest growth rate after the pandemic and is below the previous season. The national income, which was 2023 dollars in 1,13, increased to a high level of 2024 dollars in 1,32. While the growth in the economy was 3,2 percent, the reason for the 17 percent growth in the Gross Domestic Product in dollars is the real appreciation of the Turkish lira compared to the previous year. The highest growth in 2024 was experienced in the construction sector with 9,3 percent, and the lowest growth in the industrial sector with 5 percent.”
Continuing his speech by touching on the developments in the construction sector, THBB President Yavuz Işık said, “Construction is the sector with the lowest performance among all sectors between 2018-2022. The sector's production has decreased from 8,5 percent to 4,9 percent in the Gross Domestic Product for almost five years. It has a serious impact.”
There will be no real boom in construction until the rate of mortgaged sales increases
THBB President Yavuz Işık said, “Housing sales in the first two years of 2025 are seen to be 2 percent higher than the same period last year. There is a 29 percent increase in mortgage sales in the same period, which is important for us, but the share of current mortgage sales is a low rate of 127 percent in the total. This rate does not show any real vitality in the construction sector.”
They are turning to attractive housing, thinking that housing prices will rise again.
THBB President Yavuz Işık, who drew the reason for this movement that continued throughout the last year until the end of the relatively low housing prices, said, “The new housing prices for February 2025 provided by the Central Bank are 33,5 percent on an annual basis throughout the country. The increase rate, which was 2022-digit in 2023 and 3, has decreased to 2024s in 50, and the last 2 continue in the 33 band. Housing prices are still striking with the price increase below inflation. It is seen that demand will increase after the interest rate cuts expected to continue in 2025 and therefore housing prices will rise again, and that it is attractive to turn to housing.”
Housing continues to be the alternative to investing in dollars
When the construction sector is important for the Turkish economy, be careful THBB President Yavuz Işık said, “The most important problem of the Turkish economy is dollarization. If the inflation created by the interest rate explodes again, the risk of dollarization re-emerges. In other words, when citizens with money cannot earn real money from interest, they can turn to the usual way. The solution to this is the construction sector. If it is included in their policies as an “alternative investment vehicle”, not only the construction sector but the entire country economy will grow profitably. The liquidity that will turn to the dollar will go to the counter, but while keeping the exchange rate in balance, it will also turn the wheels of the economy.”
Türkiye continues to lead Europe in ready-mixed concrete production
Providing information about the Turkish Ready-Mixed Concrete Association and its activities, Yavuz Işık said that they prepare a Ready-Mixed Concrete Sector Report every year, “Our sector, with a turnover of 2023 billion Turkish Liras, employment exceeding 200 thousand and an annual production of 45 million cubic meters according to the scope of 119, makes a great contribution to construction production and, accordingly, to the country's economy. In 2024, an all-time record was broken with a production of 130 million cubic meters. Our sector, which is the most basic branch of construction, continues to reign in Europe with this production volume.”
Construction and ready-mixed concrete sectors will meet at BETON 2025
Sharing the events organized to shape the future of the sector, bring together the latest technologies and to collaborate, THBB President Yavuz Işık continued his speech as follows: “Our union will organize the “BETON 2025 Ready-Mixed Concrete Fair and Summit” at the TG Expo fair. and the latest technological products, vehicles, machinery and usage, services and equipment related to the mass sectors will be exhibited. Our fair will host more than 100 sector professionals, 3.000 of whom are foreigners, from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East with over 12.000 accounts of the locomotive of the economy, construction and its most basic ready-mixed concrete related sectors.”
Expressing their arrangements to hold a Summit simultaneously with the Fair, THBB President Yavuz Işık said, “CONCRETE 2025 Summit will maintain its direction of taking the pulse of construction, ready-mixed concrete and related sectors. In the Summit that can be held at the Fair, experts and modernists who are interested in us will be at the forefront under various themes, primarily economics, sustainability, low-cycle economy, innovation and digitalization. I invite all relevant company officials to participate in the CONCRETE 2025 Fair and Summit, which will bring together construction, concrete and all related sectors under the same roof, and to follow the latest developments in the sector.”
