
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay made important statements about the projects implemented and planned to provide solutions to the transportation problems in the city. Buca Metro is Transforming into Gaziemir Metro
President Cemil Tugay stated that the Buca Metro, one of the largest public transportation projects in Izmir, is progressing rapidly. Tugay announced that the project will not be limited to Buca, and announced that they have started work on extending the Buca Metro from the 9 Eylül Campus to Fuar İzmir. He announced that if the Presidency Investment Office approves, the Buca Metro will reach Gaziemir with this extension and the project will be called the “Gaziemir Metro”. This development will greatly ease transportation on the southern axis of Izmir and significantly reduce urban traffic.
2nd Ring Road Project Awaits Government
President Tugay, who stated that the government has not yet taken any steps regarding the “2nd Ring Road Project” planned to be built in Izmir, emphasized that the project is a mandatory need for Izmir. Tugay, who stated that the cost is approximately 50 billion TL, said that if the government does not carry out the project, they will consider implementing this important project as the Metropolitan Municipality. The completion of the 2nd Ring Road will significantly ease intra-city transit traffic in particular and strengthen Izmir’s transportation network.
Other Projects to Ease Traffic
President Tugay stated that they did not only focus on metro projects to solve the traffic problem in Izmir, but also carried out many different projects simultaneously. Tugay stated that the “Onat Tunnel” had an important place among these projects, and explained that this tunnel, which will go from Buca to the bus station, will significantly relieve traffic on Yeşildere, Mürselpaşa and Ankara asphalt roads, and that the tunnel will be put into service within a year.
Tugay, who announced the good news that the Dostluk Boulevard, which is currently under construction in Karabağlar, will be opened within two months, stated that the overpass in Gaziemir's Sarnıç Neighborhood will be opened next week, the tender for the Mürselpaşa underpass and the passage connecting the Food Bazaar to Mürselpaşa Boulevard has been held, a bridge will be built in the Ege Neighborhood, sunken exits will be built at some points and the bridges will be widened.
Tugay, who stated that a project that will provide a crossing over İZBAN from Kemal Baysak Boulevard in Mavişehir will be put into operation within a year at the latest, said that this project will provide an alternative entrance to Mavişehir. KarşıyakaHe added that 1675th Street will be opened from end to end and that they are working on an alternative road project that will connect Buca to Gaziemir. He also stated that work is ongoing for an alternative road that will go from Fuar İzmir to the airport in transit and that there will be tunnels on this route.
