Mersin, known as one of Türkiye’s important tourism centers, is preparing to increase this potential even more with the strengthening of its transportation infrastructure. The Çeşmeli-Erdemli-Silifke-Taşucu highway project, which has been implemented, will significantly shorten transportation to touristic spots in the region, reducing travel time from 3-4 hours to just 18 minutes in a revolutionary way. This huge project is described as an engineering marvel with its tunnels, bridges and viaducts.
A New Breath to the Region with an Investment of 54 Billion Liras
As a result of the examinations made by AK Party Mersin Deputy Ali Kıratlı at the project site, it was stated that the updated budget of the highway project exceeded 54 billion liras. This important investment, which will have a total length of 42 kilometers, will not only relieve Mersin city traffic but also significantly revitalize tourism activity in the region. Such a large investment will also make a significant contribution to the economic development of the region.
A Route Equipped with Engineered Structures
The Çeşmeli-Erdemli-Silifke-Taşucu highway project draws attention with the huge structures it contains. Within the scope of the project, 21 tunnels with a total length of 7 kilometers are being built. Among these tunnels, the T4.400 tunnel, which stands out with its length of 2 meters, is shown as a concrete example of engineering skill. In addition, there will be 5 viaducts, 34 underpasses, 34 bridges and 34 overpasses on the route. The physical progress level of the project is currently stated as 27% and the work continues uninterrupted.
First Signals of Relief in Transportation with Partial Openings
In addition to the major change that will occur with the completion of the project, authorities announced that some sections will be put into service early. In this way, transportation is expected to be gradually eased within the scope of the Mediterranean Coastal Road Project. It is anticipated that the highway, which is especially targeted to be ready for the tourism season, will provide local and foreign tourists with much faster and more comfortable transportation to touristic spots in the region. This situation will significantly increase Mersin's tourism potential and will have positive reflections on the regional economy.
