
A protocol was signed between the Metropolitan Municipality and the Chamber of Architects Trabzon Branch in order to bring together Trabzon with projects that comply with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) 'Child Friendly City' criteria. Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç said, "We promised to serve all segments of our city. The first of all segments of our city is our children, to whom we will hand over the future of this city and country."
Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality and TMMOB Chamber of Architects Trabzon Branch signed a 'Child Friendly City Trabzon Project' cooperation protocol. The protocol signed by Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç and Chamber of Architects Trabzon Branch President Prof. Dr. Serbülent Vural aims to implement studies in accordance with the criteria of UNICEF, the United Nations organization responsible for providing humanitarian and developmental aid to children worldwide. Within this scope, 'In Trabzon, detection, improvement and strategy suggestions will be made for open/closed institutional spaces at various scales such as city, neighborhood and street experienced by the 0-17 age group, and studies will be carried out in line with user participation design in the arrangement of spaces for children and young people.
LET THE CHILDREN OF TRABZON BE THE HAPPIEST CHILDREN
Speaking at the signing ceremony, President Ahmet Metin Genç said, “This is an important work for our city. We promised to serve all segments of our city. At the top of all our segments are our children, to whom we will hand over the future of this city and country. We set out with the goal of a child-friendly city. We also had projects related to this. We set out with the goal of ‘Let the children of Trabzon be happier’ or ‘Let the children of Trabzon be the happiest children’. We are sure that beautiful projects will be produced together with our Chamber of Architects, which acts with the same understanding on this issue. I would like to thank our chamber president and management for their sensitivity and perspective on this issue. Hopefully, we will have the opportunity to implement the projects that will be prepared for the present and future of our children with your technical eyes. We are taking a step in this regard with this project, we are saying ‘Bismillah’. May it bring good luck and fortune to our city.”

TMMOB Chamber of Architects Trabzon Branch President Prof. Dr. Serbülent Vural said the following: “UNICEF has an initiative on the subject of Child-Friendly City in 1996. Within this scope, 12 cities from Türkiye, including Trabzon, were included in the child-friendly city candidate scope. Bigger and more serious steps need to be taken on this issue. Therefore, as a chamber, we have a child and architecture commission. We have prepared such a protocol; you have accepted it, we thank you. Hopefully, we will do good things together. We will do whatever we can to make Trabzon a more livable city for everyone.”
