The “Dolphin Watching Event”, which was brought to life in collaboration with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) and WWF-Turkey, is preparing to host nature enthusiasts in the enchanting atmosphere of the Bosphorus this year as well. Organized through the joint efforts of the IMM Parks and Gardens Department, Urban Ecological Systems Branch Directorate and WWF-Türkiye, this unique experience will provide Istanbulites with unforgettable moments from April to November. Launched in 2021 under the brand name “Yaban Istanbul”, the event has been held 33 times so far and has attracted great attention.
Children's Love of the Sea is Increasing
Dolphin Watching Events, which start in April and continue until November each year, provide participants with valuable information about the marine ecosystem. During these special trips, which especially attract the attention of children, little ones have the opportunity to observe marine creatures in their natural habitat. In this way, children's curiosity and love for marine life is increased.
Introducing the Bosphorus's Residents and Natural Beauties
During the events, WWF-Turkey experts provide detailed information about the three different dolphin species living in the Bosphorus: the harbour porpoise, the common dolphin and the bottlenose dolphin. In addition, other marine creatures are introduced to draw attention to the rich marine life of the Bosphorus. IMM Wildlife Directorate personnel increase the participants' knowledge of nature by giving informative explanations about the six special groves on the Bosphorus route and the water birds living in these groves.
First Event on April 24th
This year, a total of 15 dolphin watching events will be organized for nature and sea lovers. The first eagerly awaited trip will be held on April 24, 2025. Those who want to participate in these special events, which will continue until November, should follow the application announcements and links from IMM's official 'IMM Green Istanbul' social media accounts.
