Olive and Olive Oil Sector Awarded in Iznik

The peaceful and green shores of Lake Iznik hosted the magnificent gala night of the Olive Istanbul Olive and Olive Oil Competition, which hosted distinguished names from the olive and olive oil sector. The event, which was held with the valuable sponsorships of the Orhangazi and Iznik Municipalities and the meticulous organization of the Olive Oil Academy, honored the high-quality producers in the sector while also revealing the unique olive and olive oil potential of the region. The gala night was attended by Orhangazi Mayor Bekir Aydın and Iznik Mayor Kaan Mehmet Usta, as well as organization officials, esteemed representatives of the sector, successful producers and many citizens.

Olives Are Much More Than Just a Product

Speaking at the event, Orhangazi Mayor Bekir Aydın emphasized that olives do not only have economic value, but also represent a deep culture, a rich heritage and a unique lifestyle. Mayor Aydın said, “Olives are a matter of patience, they are not produced in a hurry, they are produced with effort,” and drew attention to the fact that olive cultivation requires a long and meticulous process. Stating that olives nourished by the sweet waters of Lake Iznik and the generous nature of the region have a unique flavor, Aydın emphasized the strength of the region’s deep-rooted culture in olive production.

Picking Olives is a Work of the Heart

President Bekir Aydın continued his speech by stating that olive picking is not only a source of income but also a labor of love. Aydın, who pointed out the deep roots of the olive and these lands by saying, “A branch of olive brings a thousand prayers,” expressed his belief that olive cultivation in the region will continue to exist in the future as it did in the past.

Mayor Aydın expressed his sincere gratitude to all participants and valuable producers, especially the Olive Oil Academy, who contributed to the successful implementation of the organization. He stated that the producers participating in the competition crowned this special night with their world-class quality olive oils produced with their sweat, knowledge and experience. Aydın concluded his speech by saying, “There is quality in these lands, there is labor in these lands, there is potential to compete with the world in these lands,” and once again reiterated his full belief in the region’s strength in the field of olive cultivation.
