The first comprehensive Model United Nations Conference to be held in the TRNC with international participation will be held at the Near East University on May 10. Global issues such as “Global Human Trafficking,” “The South Africa-Israel Genocide Case,” and “Nuclear Weapons” will be discussed at the conference.
Near East University is bringing the Model United Nations (MUN) conferences, which have been held worldwide for many years, to the TRNC. The Model United Nations Conference (NEUMUN) Conference, organized by the Near East Institute, will be held on May 10 at the Grand Library.
The conference, where students experience the functioning of the United Nations (UN), stands out as a non-formal educational simulation where they develop their diplomacy, discussion and solution-making skills. The conference is the first comprehensive Model United Nations conference to be held with international participation at the university level in the TRNC.
In the conference, which aims to raise young people as individuals who are sensitive to global issues, students will represent certain countries and act like real UN delegates. Students will propose solutions to important world issues in various committees and will have the opportunity to develop skills such as diplomacy, negotiation and public speaking.
Countries will be represented in three different committees!
The conference, where topics such as “Global Human Trafficking,” “South Africa-Israel Genocide Case,” and “Nuclear Proliferation” will be discussed, will consist of three different committees: the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), the International Court of Justice (ICJ), and the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL). Participants will represent previously determined countries in these committees, express their ideas in accordance with the rules of diplomacy, and prepare draft solutions. Detailed information about the conference can be found at neumun.neu.edu.tr.
