Temperatures Rising in Istanbul, Nights Cool

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Affairs Department Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has published its weekly weather forecast report dated April 16, 2025. According to the report, no precipitation is expected in the megacity of Istanbul for the next week. While thermometers are expected to rise to 21-22 degrees during the day, temperatures are expected to drop to 7-10 degrees at night.

Dam Fill Rate Remains High

Another point that draws attention in AKOM’s report is the occupancy rate of dams in Istanbul. According to the measurements, the occupancy level in the dams was recorded as 82,36%. This rate indicates a water reserve of approximately 727 million cubic meters. The high occupancy rate shows that there is no risk of water shortage for the city at the moment. On the other hand, the sea water temperature on the coast of Istanbul was measured as 12 degrees.

Clear and Partly Cloudy Weather Expected Throughout the Week

According to weekly forecasts, Istanbul will generally have clear and partly cloudy weather. While temperatures are expected to be around 10 degrees in the morning, temperatures will noticeably increase towards noon due to the sun, reaching 21 degrees. The sky is expected to be partly and partly cloudy during the day. It is estimated that the sun's effect will be more pronounced, especially at noon.

Wind Effect Will Increase in the Evening Hours

The wind is expected to blow mostly from the northerly direction throughout the week. The wind is expected to blow at a medium force (10-20 km/h) during the day, increasing towards evening and blowing hard (30-35 km/h). It is stated that the humidity rate will vary between 45% and 80% throughout the week.

Temperatures Above Seasonal Normals Expected

When looking at the long-term temperature averages for April, it is seen that daytime temperatures generally vary between 9,4 degrees and 18 degrees. However, until the end of April this year, temperatures in Istanbul are expected to be 2 to 4 degrees above seasonal norms. AKOM warned citizens that sudden temperature drops at night, despite the mild weather during the day, could trigger seasonal diseases such as flu. It is especially recommended that the elderly and those with chronic illnesses be careful about these sudden temperature changes.
