Students from Mersin Examined Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant

Students and teachers of Aydıncık Anatolian High School and administrators of Aydıncık District National Education Directorate visited the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) site built by the Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation Rosatom.

Before the trip, students and teachers were given an occupational health and safety briefing on the rules to be followed on site. Security guards and occupational health and safety department employees accompanied the group during their visit.

During the visit, students were informed about modern nuclear energy production technologies, how a nuclear power plant is built, the purpose of the main buildings and their working principles. AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş. experts explained to visitors why nuclear power plants are among the best environmentally friendly energy sources.

As part of the tour program, the observation terrace, approximately 200 meters above sea level, and the fire department of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant were visited. Firefighters, who work 24 hours a day at the nuclear power plant construction site, introduced the firefighting equipment to the guests and provided information about their work, regular drills, and the support they provide to emergency response units during the fire season in Mersin. At the end of the visit, each participant was given souvenir gifts.

AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş. General Manager Sergei Butckikh made a statement on the subject:

“Rosatom attaches great importance to creating favorable conditions for the sustainable development of social areas in the region where Akkuyu nuclear power plant is being built. Akkuyu Nuclear regularly organizes environmental campaigns and cultural, social and sports events in close cooperation with local authorities. The active interest of the local people in this project, which will play a key role in the development of the region for decades and will be a guarantee of environmentally friendly energy production, is extremely valuable to us. I hope that the participants of today's trip will share their positive impressions of Akkuyu nuclear power plant with their families and close circle.

Akkuyu NPP project employees attach great importance to children’s education. In this context; trips to the power plant site, career promotion events, creative competitions, lessons in schools, training camps and various informative activities are regularly held for students.
