No Permission for Illegal Fishing from Şanlıurfa Gendarmerie

Şanlıurfa Provincial Gendarmerie Command continues its uninterrupted inspections to protect water resources and prevent illegal fishing.

Anti-Poaching Operation on the Euphrates River Bank

In this context, an illegal hunting incident was detected during preventive patrol activities carried out on the banks of the Euphrates River in the Faik Neighborhood of the Hilvan district on April 13, 2025. As a result of the successful operation carried out jointly by the Provincial Gendarmerie Command's Environment, Nature and Animal Protection Team (HAYDİ) and the Hilvan District Gendarmerie Command teams, the person named FA, who was determined to be fishing using a prohibited fishing net, was caught red-handed.

Seized Materials and Sentence Imposed

In a detailed search of the suspect FA's vehicle; 250 kilograms of pike and carp, 1 inflatable boat, 2 boat oars, 3 prohibited fishing nets (600 meters in total), 1 battery and 1 tarpaulin were seized. While all the equipment used in illegal hunting was confiscated, FA was imposed a high administrative fine of 1380 Turkish liras for fishing with prohibited nets in accordance with the relevant articles of the Fisheries Law No. 23 (19/b and 221).

Warning from the Gendarmerie: Pay Attention to the Hunting Ban

In a statement made by the Şanlıurfa Provincial Gendarmerie Command, it was reminded that all types of fishing in inland waters are prohibited by law between April 1 and July 1. The statement also emphasized that those who want to hunt for commercial purposes at other times are required to obtain a Fisheries License, and citizens who will fish from the shore for sport purposes must obtain an amateur fishing license from the provincial or district agricultural directorates.
