
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the “Simultaneous Triple Independent Runway Operations” application at Istanbul Airport will start on Thursday, April 17 at 10.00:XNUMX. Uraloğlu, who stated that the Triple Independent Runway Operation is an operation that allows three planes to land and three planes to take off simultaneously, said, “With this system, three planes will be able to land at Istanbul Airport at the same time. Three planes will be able to take off simultaneously. The Triple Independent Runway Operation is being implemented in the United States. Turkey will be the first country in Europe to implement this application.”

Intensive Work Has Been Carried Out Since 2022
Uraloğlu stated that the project work started in the last quarter of 2022, and meetings, risk analyses, safety studies and simulations were carried out in 2023 and 2024 in cooperation with Eurocontrol, State Airports Authority, General Directorate of Civil Aviation and Turkish Airlines.
Uraloğlu, who stated that all necessary preparations were completed in line with the safety analysis report prepared by Eurocontrol, said, “A new airspace design was made, control systems were made suitable for triple operations, airline companies were informed. Our Air Traffic Controllers were trained with our local and national simulator.”
Istanbul Airport's Position in Europe Will Be Strengthened
Uraloğlu stated that with the start of the application, Istanbul Airport’s position in Europe will be further strengthened. According to EUROCONTROL’s European Aviation Outlook Report dated March 26, 2025, according to air traffic statistics for the period of March 17 – March 23, 2025, there were an average of 326 flights per day at Istanbul Airport, Uraloğlu said, “Our Istanbul Airport has been the busiest airport in Europe for years.”
