Camshaft Production for Bayraktar TB2 Engine from ESTAŞ

The local and nationally produced Bayraktar TB2 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), which is Türkiye's pride in the defense industry, has been making a big impact worldwide. One of the important details behind this success is that the camshafts, which are critical parts of the TB2's completely local engine, are produced by the Turkish industrial organization ESTAŞ, a world giant in its field.

ESTAŞ, which manufactures camshafts for the world's leading automobile brands, is now successfully manufacturing the camshafts in the engines of Bayraktar TB2, which has made a name for itself in the defense industry. Bayraktar TB2, a medium-altitude long-endurance tactical UAV that can successfully carry out intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and armed attack missions, has quickly gained global fame. Turkey learned that the camshafts in the completely domestic and national engines used in these UAVs are produced in Sivas through a social media post by BAYKAR General Manager Haluk Bayraktar. Bayraktar touched on the design and R&D processes of the TM100 engine used in the UAV in his post and thanked ESTAŞ and other domestic industrial organizations that produce parts for the engine.

ESTAŞ General Manager Mavuş: “We were very happy to be a part of this project”

ESTAŞ General Manager Osman Mavuş expressed his feelings about this important cooperation and said, “Drones, which are our eyes and ears in the air, are very important to us. We produce eccentric shafts for the engines developed domestically and nationally for these drones. ESTAŞ also produces composite products for the aviation sector. There are institutions that produce TB2, which are the apple of our eye, TUSAŞ and Mr. Haluk Bayraktar. One of the issues that has been talked about for a long time and questioned and even criticized by people here is whether the original engine was made or not. The TM-100 engine was realized today in our TB-2 drones as an original and domestic engine with great effort from its design to all processes. We were also a part of this. Another aspect of this is that Mr. Haluk Bayraktar mentioned us in a message he shared on a social media platform, which made us very happy. These are very valuable issues in Anatolia.”

“A Source of Pride for Us”

Mavuş, who emphasized that producing camshafts for TB2 was a great source of honor for them, said, “We are very pleased to have contributed to this production without being dependent on foreign sources. It is a great source of pride for us that ESTAŞ is included in both the diesel engine produced by TUSAŞ’s PD170 T and the Bayraktar engine, TM-100. These technologies are sufficient to defeat both domestic and foreign enemies. These moves in the field of technology have reached dimensions that we never imagined. 15 years ago, we could never have imagined that we would have parts in an aircraft. These studies make us proud and are a source of motivation for us. The defense industry is the shining star of Türkiye. Turkey is a country of peace and stability as it is located. The burdens on the country and the statesmen are very high. I am grateful to this company that supports this with technology to some extent. The fact that they have included us in their projects as a part of this makes us happy.” While this cooperation once again reveals the importance of domestic and national production in the defense industry, it also clearly reveals the level that the Turkish industry has reached.
