Pre-Holiday Water Assurance from İZSU to the Peninsula

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality IZSU General Directorate is carrying out intensive work to ensure that citizens living in the Peninsula region, such as Urla, Seferihisar, Menderes and Karaburun, where the population density increases especially in the summer months, do not experience water shortages during the holiday season. In order to reduce the effects of drought and climate crisis, approximately 10 million liras with an investment 10 new water wells İZSU continues to produce alternative resources in addition to existing underground and surface water resources.

Taking action to strengthen the existing underground water resources in the peninsula region, İZSU General Directorate has put a total of 10 new water wells into service in Karaburun, Urla, Seferihisar and Menderes districts with an investment of 10 million liras. The water obtained from these new wells will be distributed to the neighborhoods in the region through modern transmission lines and it is aimed to prevent possible water shortages that may occur in the summer months. In addition, İZSU General Directorate continues its work to determine the potential locations of new water wells with geophysical methods in order to avoid water problems in the 2025 summer season.

Statement from İZSU Official on Water Supply to the Region

Providing detailed information about the drilling works, İZSU 3rd Region Geology Engineer Dilek Kuzu stated that they opened drilling wells in order to secure water supply in regions where the drought experienced in recent years is expected to cause problems in water supply. Kuzu said, “In this context, we opened 10 wells in needed areas in Karaburun, Seferihisar and Urla. Thanks to these new wells, the water we obtain from underground will be delivered to our neighborhoods in need of water through the transmission lines we have established. Our work continues uninterruptedly in other regions experiencing water problems. We will launch a new tender process in 2025 and we will bring new water wells to our region within the scope of this tender.” These statements show that İZSU is working resolutely to meet the water needs of citizens in the Peninsula region without any problems during the summer months.
