Mersin Metropolitan Municipality has accelerated its landscaping works, which aim to make the city greener and more livable, with the arrival of spring. The Parks and Gardens Department teams have turned Mersin into a riot of color with seasonal flower plantings carried out all around the city. These works, which were carried out in a wide area from streets and boulevards to median strips, from parks to intersections, have made a significant contribution to the aesthetics of the city.
Thousands of Flowers Meet the Soil
As a result of a feverish effort, the Metropolitan Municipality teams brought a total of 27 seasonal flowers to the soil. This colorful variety includes the vibrant red of Geranium, the innocent white of Daisy, the warm tones of Marigold, the eye-catching patterns of Petunia and the sun-like yellows of Gazania. In addition, endemic species reflecting the natural richness of the city were planted, contributing to the protection of biodiversity. The planted tree, shrub and bush groups further strengthened the green texture of the city.
Aesthetics and Satisfaction Focused Studies
Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Parks and Gardens Department Project Branch Directorate Landscape Architect Görkem Arkan made important statements about the work done. Arkan said, “In our beautiful Mersin, where the most beautiful and vibrant colors of the four seasons are experienced, we are carrying out seasonal flower planting in our parks, green areas, medians and intersections in our areas of responsibility.” Arkan stated that the planting processes are carried out meticulously after designs suitable for the aesthetics and visuality of the city are made, and said that varieties such as Gazania, Marigold and Petunia are predominant among the seasonal species used. Arkan said, “In order to make the best even better; we continue our work with devotion, love and most importantly, with satisfaction,” and emphasized that the satisfaction of the citizens is the greatest source of motivation for them.
