Myanmar Railways carried out rapid repair work on railway lines and bridges damaged in the earthquake on March 28, ensuring minimal disruption to services. Following intensive work, passenger and cargo trains on the Yangon-Mandalay line, one of the country’s most important routes, resumed operations smoothly as of April 5, shortly after the earthquake.
Reinforcement Work Continues on Yangon-Mandalay Line
Following the resumption of services, Myanmar Railways is continuing additional reinforcement works to further enhance the resilience of the rail network on the Yangon-Mandalay line. These works include improvements in critical areas such as Ywapale and Hanza, Nyaunglunt and Magyibin, and Phyu and Nyaungbintha. The works include the renewal of gravel fill, the tightening (packing) of the rails, and the readjustment of concrete sleepers. These reinforcement works aim to reduce damage to the rail network and prevent disruption of services in the event of similar natural disasters in the future.
Regular Services Started on Pyinmana-Taungdwingyi Line
In another important step to meet the transportation needs of the country, Myanmar Railways has resumed regular train services on the Pyinmana-Taungdwingyi-Pyinmana route as of April 10. Train 103 on this line departs from Pyinmana station at 14:00 and arrives in Taungdwingyi at 20:00. The return train, train 104, departs from Taungdwingyi at 05:00 and arrives in Pyinmana at 11:00 the next day. These services offer a reliable and affordable transportation alternative for passengers in the region. Both trains have five regular-class carriages and one brake carriage. Myanmar Railways officials also stated that there is no change in ticket prices and stopping stations on this line.
Infrastructure Improvements Continue Uninterrupted
Myanmar Railways continues to work on improving the country’s railway infrastructure. These repairs and reinforcements aim to meet the needs of both passenger and cargo transport in a safe and efficient manner. Myanmar Railways’ rapid response and ongoing improvement efforts demonstrate its commitment to improving the resilience of the country’s transport network and providing uninterrupted service to the public.
