Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır announced that Türkiye's first Submeter Resolution Earth Observation Satellite İMECE has successfully completed its second year in space. Launched into space on April 15, 2023, İMECE made a significant contribution to Türkiye's independence in the field of space technologies with the domestic production of its critical components.
Foundation for Domestic Production and Constellation Projects
Minister Kacır emphasized that many critical parts of the İMECE satellite, such as the electro-optic camera, flight computer, electric propulsion system and communication subsystems, were produced with national resources with a locality rate of up to 90 percent. He stated that this success also forms the basis of future constellation satellite projects such as İMECE-2 and İMECE-3.
“We Will Be One of the Leading Countries in Space”
Minister Kacır stated that Türkiye has reached a level where it can develop, test and produce its own communication and imaging satellites with the investments it has made in satellite technologies, and said, “In line with our National Space Program goals, we will make our country one of the leading countries in space.” İMECE’s successful performance in space is considered an important milestone on the way to achieving Türkiye’s goals in the space field.
