
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that Malatya has been integrated into the High Speed Train (YHT) network and announced that the combined transportation service between Sivas-Malatya Regional Train and Istanbul-Malatya connected to YHT has started. This development is considered an important turning point in Malatya's transportation network.
Ankara-Sivas High-Speed Train Line Carried 1.6 Million Passengers in Two Years
In his written statement, Minister Uraloğlu stated that the Ankara-Sivas YHT Line, which was opened on April 26, 2023, has completed two years and that the line has achieved great success during this time. Emphasizing that there are even two round trips per day, Uraloğlu said, “We have provided service to 2 million 1 thousand 660 passengers with the speed and comfort of a YHT on our Ankara-Sivas line since the day it was opened.”
Engineering Success in Challenging Geography
Uraloğlu noted that the line was built in a length of 405 kilometers and that a great engineering success was achieved in difficult geographical conditions by constructing 66,1 tunnels of 49 kilometers and 27,4 viaducts of 49 kilometers. It was emphasized that with this project, a significant development was made in the transportation infrastructure of the region.
554 Thousand Passengers Carried on the Istanbul-Sivas Line
Reminding that there are Elmadağ, Kırıkkale, Yerköy, Yozgat, Sorgun, Akdağmadeni, Yıldızeli stations on the Ankara-Sivas line, Uraloğlu announced that direct flights have started on the Sivas-Istanbul line as of May 4, 2024. Stating that these flights are carried out as 1 arrival and 1 departure per day, Uraloğlu gave the following information:
“YHTs stop in Yıldızeli, Yozgat, Kırıkkale, Ankara, Eskişehir, Arifiye, İzmit, Pendik, Söğütlüçeşme on the Sivas-İstanbul line. A total of 554 passengers have traveled on this line to date. We have expanded the YHT network not only with direct lines but also with combined transportation. As of October 755, 25, we have included Tokat in our system. We are providing a connection from Tokat to Yıldızeli Station with a bus transfer. Thus, we are performing a total of 2024 trips, 4 mutual trips per day on the Tokat-Ankara line and 2 mutual trips per day on the Tokat-Istanbul line. We have also put into operation the combined transportation with YHT connection between Sivas-Malatya Regional Train and Istanbul-Malatya.”
These developments are of great importance in terms of increasing transportation opportunities in the region and shortening travel times. It is expected that Malatya will be integrated into the YHT network with the combined transportation service and will make positive contributions to the regional economy and tourism.
