Konya Metropolitan Municipality is being appreciated for an exemplary project it has implemented to raise conscious and safe generations of the future. Thanks to this meaningful event, which is held under the title of “Hero Children Learn with Firefighters”, first-grade primary school students in the city center are both gaining theoretical knowledge and gaining awareness about disasters and emergencies through practical training, accompanied by expert personnel of the fire department.
Creating Disaster Awareness in Little Hearts
The 2024-2025 academic year of this special program organized by the Konya Metropolitan Municipality has been successfully completed with the participation of the last group of students. Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay emphasized that the main purpose of the project is to build a safer society by creating disaster and emergency awareness at an early age. In this context, primary school 1st grade students in the Selçuklu, Karatay and Meram districts were hosted at the Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department Training Center and given an age-appropriate, fun and interactive education process.
Learning with Games, the Goal of Raising Conscious Individuals
President Altay stated that children learned important information through gamified and interactive activities prepared specifically for their age and development levels in the trainings organized in three separate groups every weekday. President Altay stated that the content of the trainings included topics such as fire safety, basic evacuation rules and the correct use of the vital 112 Emergency Call Line, and said, “Thanks to these trainings, significant contributions were made to our children both learning while having fun and growing up as conscious individuals. I would like to thank all the little heroes who participated in these meaningful trainings.”
Great Contribution to Social Awareness
The “Child Heroes Learn with Firefighters” project, carried out by Konya Metropolitan Municipality in cooperation with the Provincial Directorate of National Education, is achieving great success with the participation of approximately 28 thousand students each year. One of the most important outcomes of the project is that it enables the expansion of social awareness by transferring the valuable information acquired by children to their families and surroundings. In this way, not only children but also adults indirectly become more aware of disasters and emergencies, which contributes to the increase in the general security level of society. This long-term and effective project of Konya Metropolitan Municipality is considered an important investment in raising the awareness of children, who are the security of the future.
