Knorr-Bremse Produces Equipment for S-Bahn Munich Trains

Knorr-Bremse is a major equipment supplier for the S-Bahn Munich trains built by Siemens Mobility. The company supplies brakes, couplings and other key components to improve the quality of the city’s transport system. This cooperation began with a contract for 2023 electric trains with Siemens Mobility in 90.

Siemens Mobility Signs Contract for 90 Electric Trains

In August 2023, Siemens Mobility signed a contract for the purchase of 90 electric trains to strengthen the transport infrastructure of the city of Munich. Each train is 202 meters long and consists of 13 cars. These trains can carry up to 1841 passengers and provide great convenience for urban transportation.

Equipment Supply from Knorr-Bremse

Knorr-Bremse is one of Siemens Mobility’s most important partners in this project, supplying the trains’ magnetic rail brake systems and pneumatic control systems. The company also provides silent screw compressors and bogie components, increasing the trains’ safety and comfort. Knorr-Bremse also adds windshield wipers and washers to ensure the trains operate efficiently, contributing to the project with its high-quality equipment.

Deliveries and Assembly Process

Knorr-Bremse’s deliveries will begin in late 2025, a process that is critical to ensuring the rapid assembly of the trains. The manufactured equipment will be delivered in line with Siemens Mobility’s project timeline. This is an important step to ensure perfect fit and reliability.

Environmentally Friendly and Sustainable Transportation Solutions

The silent compressors integrated into Munich S-Bahn trains significantly reduce noise levels, offering city dwellers a quieter journey experience. This is an important contribution to creating environmentally friendly transport solutions. Knorr-Bremse and Siemens Mobility are building sustainable transport solutions that not only take comfort into account, but also the environment.

Technology and Safety

S-Bahn Munich trains are equipped with high-tech brake control systems. Magnetic rail brakes ensure that the trains stop precisely, which increases safety. This technology is designed for the dense traffic conditions in the city and plays an important role in ensuring safety in urban transport.

The coupling elements also make train maintenance and wagon connections easier, increasing system efficiency. These components help Siemens Mobility reduce maintenance time on trains, thus providing faster, more uninterrupted service for passengers.

S-Bahn Munich: Urban Mobility of the Future

After the delivery of the new trains is complete, Munich will see a major transformation in urban transport. Siemens Mobility’s urban mobility solutions and Knorr-Bremse’s robust technologies are providing the city with a more sustainable and efficient transport network. In the future, Munich’s railway system will be expanded to include a wider range of transport networks.

Knorr-Bremse's cooperation with Siemens Mobility is an important step towards increasing the efficiency of urban transport and providing passengers with a safe, comfortable and environmentally friendly transport experience. With this project, Munich S-Bahn trains are taking solid steps into the future with modern and sustainable transport solutions.
