Indian Railways stands out with its outstanding performance in the 2024/25 financial year. The company produced a total of 9 passenger coaches, a 7.134% increase over the previous year, reaching the highest production level in its history. This record production stands out as a concrete indicator of the country’s determination to strengthen its railway infrastructure and meet the increasing passenger demand.
Integral Coach Factory (ICF) Takes the Lead
The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) located in Chennai plays a leading role in this impressive feat. Having produced 3.007 coaches alone, contributing significantly to the total production, ICF also stands out with its various modern train sets. The products include 21 Vande Bharat electric trains with seating arrangement, the first-ever 16-coach Vande Bharat train with a sleeping module, and the 12-coach Namo Bharat train, which is expected to play a significant role in urban transport. Having produced a total of 1.169 multiple units (EMUs), ICF also produced 1.838 locomotive-hauled passenger coaches in compliance with German LHB standards and four Amrit Bharat push-pull trains, each with 22 coaches, demonstrating its production diversity.
Strong Contribution from Other Factories
Record production is not limited to ICF. The Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala also increased its production by 9,5% compared to the previous year, producing 2.102 coaches. The highlight of RCF’s production is the first Vande Metro electric train, which is planned to operate on intercity routes. The Modern Coach Factory (MCF) in Rae Bareli, on the other hand, has achieved even more impressive growth, delivering 16,8 coaches, an increase of 2.025% compared to the previous year. The performance of these factories shows that India’s railway coach production capacity has increased significantly across the country.
Rising Demand and Global Interest
This record production by Indian Railways can be considered as a reflection of the increasing passenger demand within the country. At the same time, the record locomotive production report announced earlier also supports the strong interest in the Indian market for rolling stock and the increasing attention of leading global manufacturers to this market. These investments and increases in production show that India is taking significant steps towards modernizing its railway infrastructure and creating a more comfortable, fast and safe transportation network. This record production in the financial year 2024/25 clearly demonstrates the future growth and development potential of Indian Railways.
