Queensland Rail has taken a significant step towards taking the travel experience to a whole new level. The company has signed a strategic partnership with Nomad Digital, a global leader in smart mobility solutions, to deliver seamless, high-speed onboard Wi-Fi on 65 new passenger trains. This innovative move aims to make public transport more attractive and efficient by keeping passengers connected throughout their journey.
Redefining the Travel Experience with Smart Technology
This strong partnership between Queensland Rail and Nomad Digital is being implemented as part of the Queensland Train Production Program (QTMP). Built by Hyundai Rotem and Downer Rail at a dedicated facility in Torbanlea, Fraser Coast, the new six-car Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) will be equipped with state-of-the-art WiFi services. The program aims to significantly strengthen the capacity of the transport infrastructure in regional Queensland, particularly ahead of the significant population growth and the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brisbane.
Through this partnership, passengers travelling across Queensland will enjoy high-speed Queensland Rail WiFi, transforming their daily commute from a mere means of transport to a connected and efficient experience. This development also aligns well with global smart mobility trends.
Queensland Rail WiFi: Cornerstone of Growth and Innovation
Nomad Digital’s role in this important project not only helps Queensland Rail achieve its digital transformation goals, but also further strengthens the company’s presence in the Asia Pacific region. The onboard WiFi system, which will be integrated into the new trains, will effectively meet the growing passenger demand for reliable and fast internet access on public transport.
“This collaboration represents a milestone in delivering innovative rail connectivity that significantly improves the daily travel experience for passengers,” said Emmanuel Henry, General Manager of Nomad Digital.
Queensland Rail’s commitment to integrate Queensland Rail WiFi as a core part of its future fleet clearly demonstrates the state’s vision to deliver solutions to both its daily transport needs and to best prepare for upcoming major international events. This significant step also tangibly demonstrates Queensland Rail’s strong commitment to innovation, passenger comfort and sustainable infrastructure.
