Fishing Season Completes with Bonito Abundance

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı announced that the 2024-2025 fishing season has been completed, and drew attention to the record level in bonito hunting in particular. Minister Yumaklı said, “We have left behind the most productive bonito season of recent years with approximately 50 thousand tons of bonito hunting.”

Sustainable Fishing Implemented for the First Time

Minister Yumaklı stated that the hunting season, which opened with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan by saying “Vira Bismillah”, was successfully completed. He emphasized that this season, as a first, planned production was started in 7 different hunting species with the aim of sustainable fishing. It was stated that this step is of great importance in terms of protecting marine resources and transferring them to future generations.

Record Catch in Bonito, Anchovy Was Also Abundant

Minister Yumaklı stated that every net thrown during the season is a step towards sustainability and announced the good news that bonito fishing has reached its highest level in recent years. It was noted that this season, in which approximately 50 thousand tons of bonito fishing was carried out, was quite productive for fishermen. It was announced that a harvest of approximately 150 thousand tons was obtained in anchovy fishing, which is within the scope of planned production and is indispensable for tables. Minister Yumaklı expressed that the abundance of the seas is not withheld in other fish species.

Expressing hope for the future after a successful season, Minister Yumaklı emphasized that their goal is again a fruitful and sustainable fishing. Expressing his gratitude to the fishermen who set out into the endless blue of the seas and bring hope to the tables with every net cast, Minister Yumaklı stated that their hard-working and devoted work is commendable. While these positive results of the 2024-2025 fishing season increase hopes for the next season, it has once again been revealed that sustainable fishing practices play a critical role in protecting the marine ecosystem and sustaining fish stocks.
