
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu emphasized the remarkable increase in passengers at Ankara Esenboğa Airport over the years. Minister Uraloğlu stated that the number of passengers the airport hosted in 2002 increased from 2 million 836 thousand 628 to 2024 million 12 thousand 913 in 753. He stated that this momentum continued in the first quarter of 2025 and the number of passengers reached 3 million 10 thousand 378. These figures clearly demonstrate how important a transportation hub Esenboğa Airport has become for the capital Ankara and its surroundings.
A Giant Project for Capacity Increase is Being Implemented
Recalling that various modernization works have been carried out at Esenboğa Airport in the past years, Minister Uraloğlu said that they continue to develop the airport with a more innovative and visionary understanding, foreseeing that increasing passenger demand will continue in the future. In this context, he stated that the capacity increase works initiated in December 2022 are carried out in two stages. Uraloğlu announced that the first stage works are nearing completion and the final touches have been made on the 30rd runway, new tower building and other service buildings, which will increase passenger capacity to 3 million.
Terminal Building is Being Expanded
Minister Uraloğlu also shared important information about the second phase of the capacity increase project. He stated that the current terminal building will be expanded by at least 40 thousand square meters in this phase. With this expansion, it is aimed to manage the increasing passenger traffic more comfortably and smoothly. This huge capacity increase project implemented at Esenboğa Airport will further strengthen the capital's role in air transportation and make significant contributions to the regional economy.
