'Democracy School' for Young People from the Mediterranean Academy

The Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mediterranean Academy is starting a new series of lessons to enrich the world of thought of young people in the fields of democracy, city and art. This alternative education program, which was implemented under the title of “Democracy School”, is open to the participation of university students, working and unemployed youth, and invites all Izmir residents who want to be involved in these important discussions.

This initiative of the Mediterranean Academy aims to bring young people together to address the concept of democracy in its different dimensions, to increase their awareness of urban life and to discover the role of art in intellectual processes. The “Democracy School” aims to develop young people’s skills in deep thinking and evaluation on public issues, while also expanding their access to critical and scientific information. In this way, it is aimed to contribute to the development of young people as more conscious and active citizens.

The First Lesson Begins with the Theme “Justice and Equality”

The eagerly awaited first lesson of the “Democracy School” will be given by two academics who are experts in their fields. Academician Ulaş Bayraktar, known for his work in the field of city and local governments, and Ezgi Bakçay, who stands out with her in-depth knowledge of city and art, will meet with young people at the Atlas Pavilion in Kültürpark between 7:2025 and 17.30:20.00 on Wednesday, May XNUMX, XNUMX. The theme of the first lesson is quite striking: “Justice and Equality: Deep Issues with Short Films”.

In this first lesson, the concepts of justice and equality will be discussed from different perspectives through short films. Discussing abstract concepts by making them concrete with the power of visual art will allow young people to understand these important issues more deeply and develop different perspectives. Ulaş Bayraktar and Ezgi Bakçay's experience and mastery of different disciplines promise to transform the lesson into a rich and participatory learning environment.

This first step of the “Democracy School” aims to increase the interest of young people in social and political issues, encourage them to think and create a platform for active participation. This meaningful initiative of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mediterranean Academy seems to make a significant contribution to the preparation of young people for the future in a more conscious and equipped manner.
