Delhi Metro is making significant changes to ease the travel of fans travelling to and from the Arun Jaitley Stadium for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 matches. The Metro authorities have decided to extend the last train timings on all lines, including the Airport Express, by up to two hours on match days. This will cover five match nights on April 13, 16, 27, 29 and May 11.
Priority to Stations Around the Stadium
These arrangements aim to reduce congestion at stations close to the Arun Jaitley Stadium, such as ITO and Delhi Gate, which see heavy post-match passenger traffic. Extended departure times and additional services will ensure fans have a more comfortable journey and less waiting while leaving the stadium.
76 Extra Flights for Match Nights
On each of the five match nights, Delhi Metro will operate a total of 76 additional services. While these additional services will be distributed equally across all lines, the Violet Line serving the Arun Jaitley Stadium will be given more focus than other lines in terms of operational priority and increased frequency. This aims to minimise congestion on the stadium route.
Important Warnings and Safety Precautions for Fans
Delhi Metro authorities strongly recommend fans to use their smart cards or QR coded tickets to avoid any delays. They are also reminding passengers to arrive at stations early, follow the instructions of metro staff and not bring restricted items such as lighters and large bags.
Security measures at major stations have also been increased for match days. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), in collaboration with the Delhi Police and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), will provide more security personnel, baggage scanners and CCTV surveillance to maintain order. Information desks will also be set up at Delhi Gate and ITO stations to assist fans during match hours.
Important transfer hubs like Kashmere Gate, Mandi House and Central Secretariat will be arranged to support smooth transfer of passengers coming from long distances. However, due to low passenger demand, Janakpuri West – Krishna Park Extension line will continue to operate as per normal service schedules.
Delhi Metro is once again proving its success in facilitating transportation at major public events. Having previously stood out for its efficiency, punctuality and commitment to passenger safety at events such as the Commonwealth Games and international cricket matches, Delhi Metro continues to be an ideal choice for cricket fans as a fast, reliable and environmentally friendly transport option. With its flat fares, short journey times and low emissions, Delhi Metro offers a significant alternative to road transport on major cricket nights.
