Cleaning Hands on the Seabed in Antalya Coast

An important seabed cleaning operation was initiated in Antalya's world-famous Konyaaltı beach in order to draw attention to sea pollution and raise awareness. In the first cleaning event, which was held under the leadership of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, 25 professional divers full from the sea 80 kilograms of waste These meaningful cleaning efforts took place at different points. Under the coordination of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Coastal and Marine Management and Sports Services Branch Directorate, Antalya Konyaaltı Underwater Sports Club (ANTSAK), Antalya Sailing Sports Club, Maritime Platform, Underwater Research Association and Akdeniz University Social Awareness and Contribution Projects Coordination Office, the first seabed cleaning in front of Konyaaltı Varyant EKDAĞ Facilities was carried out by divers and many students. Providing information about the seabed cleaning efforts, Antalya Konyaaltı Underwater Sports Club Board Chairman Alim Tuğ expressed their happiness for being a partner in this meaningful event led by Antalya Metropolitan Municipality. Stating that an effective cleaning effort was carried out with the participation of 25 professional divers, where wastes were removed from both the surface and the deep, Tuğ said, “Our main goal in these events is to create awareness among our people about sea pollution. We would like to thank our Metropolitan Municipality in this sense. It is doing its part in the best way possible. Contrary to popular belief, the seas are among the elements that provide 70 percent of the oxygen source on earth. Let’s protect our seas for our lives. I believe that we will carry out a serious cleaning with the wastes we will collect from four different points.”

Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Sports Services Branch Directorate Sports Services Coordinator Ömre İmran Öztürk also said that the Metropolitan Municipality will continue the seabed and coastal cleaning in four different regions for four weeks with the stakeholders they cooperate with. Öztürk said, “Cleaning up waste and creating a breathing environment for our living creatures and raising awareness for clean maritime is our common goal. We will continue to work together as Antalya Metropolitan Municipality for clean seas and our future.” This joint effort is considered an important step towards protecting Antalya’s unique coasts and leaving clean seas for future generations.
