CAF introduced new metro technology to visitors by displaying a full-scale mock-up of an automatic metro train from the Inneo platform in Madrid’s Plaza de Colón. The exhibition will be open until the end of April and includes a passenger cabin with comfortable seats and space for wheelchairs. Visitors will be able to experience the comfort and functionality of this new form of transport in person.
2024 Order and Future Deliveries
CAF has received an order for 2024 six-car trains in 80. This contract, including maintenance services, is worth over $900 million and represents a major investment. According to the approved timetable, the first trains will start carrying passengers in 2027. Production of the trains is progressing rapidly at CAF’s facilities in Zaragoza and Beasain.
Automatic Metro Train: Technology and Comfort
The new trains will increase capacity from 1.200 to around 1.400 passengers. Top speed will also increase by 33% to 110 km/h, which will provide significant acceleration, especially for commuting. In addition, the trains’ energy efficiency will increase by 20%, significantly reducing operational costs. These developments demonstrate CAF’s technology integration focused on reliability and resource saving.
The trains can operate in semi-automatic GoA2 mode or fully driverless in GoA4 mode. This feature will play a key role in future transport by increasing operational flexibility and safety along metro lines.
Benefits of the Automatic Metro Train Project
CAF is reinforcing its leadership in creating transport solutions for major European cities. This project further strengthens Spain’s strength in producing innovative railway vehicles. The order for 80 trains reinforces CAF’s position in the global transport technology market. Madrid residents and visitors will enjoy a modern, fast and environmentally friendly public transport system in just a few years.
These automated metro trains will not only offer speed and efficiency, but will also provide a more comfortable travel experience. Madrid’s metro future is rapidly modernizing and will become more efficient with these new trains.
