With the approach of the summer season, Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality has launched a comprehensive study on the northern coasts of Karasu and Kocaali districts. The aim is to regain the Blue Flag, an international award that certifies the cleanliness, safety, equipment and environmental sensitivity of these popular beaches. These studies, which were implemented upon the instructions of Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yusuf Alemdar, will ensure that the beaches are much more prepared for the 2025 summer season.
Tender Process Begins for Blue Flag
"Blue Bayraklı Taking an important step towards the goal of “Beaches”, Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality will hold a tender on Monday, April 28th for the implementation of the necessary infrastructure works. After the completion of the tender process, Kocaali Central Beach, Karasu Coastal Park and Karasu Küçükboğaz Beach will be brought into compliance with the determined standards and will greet the 2025 summer season with Blue Flag pride. This development will increase Sakarya’s tourism potential and create an attractive destination for local and foreign tourists.
33 Criteria Will Be Fulfilled Completely
We are working meticulously to receive the Blue Flag award, which is the symbol of environmental awareness and high-quality service at the international level. In this context, a total of 33 mandatory criteria will be fully met, from the quality of swimming water at the beaches to lifeguard services, from disabled accessibility facilities to the importance given to environmental management and awareness-raising activities. In addition, the highest level of sanitary facilities and equipment will be provided to meet all the needs of beach users.
The Blue Flag program, coordinated by the Turkish Environmental Education Foundation (TÜRÇEV) in Türkiye, is based on continuity. Therefore, the Blue Flag award must be received every year. The determination and meticulous work of the Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality in this regard is considered an indication that the Sakarya coasts will continue to carry this prestigious award in the coming years. With these efforts, the Sakarya coasts will both preserve their natural beauty and offer an experience at international standards to their visitors.
