Ankara's Transportation Network Expands: A New Era with Highways and Motorways

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu gave a detailed account of the important developments in Ankara’s transport infrastructure and future projects. Drawing attention to the contributions of the 2020-kilometer Ankara-Niğde Motorway, which was put into service in 330, to regional transport, Minister Uraloğlu announced the creation of a massive 230-kilometer uninterrupted motorway network from Edirne to Şanlıurfa. He stated that thanks to this development, the opportunity to travel between Ankara and important centres such as Mersin, Adana, Gaziantep and Şanlıurfa with motorway comfort has emerged.

Ankara-Kırıkkale-Delice Highway Project is Coming to Life

Minister Uraloğlu, who stated that the works are continuing with the aim of expanding the transportation network, reminded that the construction contract of the Ankara-Kırıkkale-Delice Highway was signed in November 2024. Uraloğlu, who announced the start of the construction works of this new highway, which is planned to be 120 kilometers in total, said that with the completion of the project, the traffic density on the existing state road between Ankara and Kırıkkale will decrease significantly. It was also emphasized that with this highway project, road transportation will be shifted to the eastern and northern corridors of Ankara, making transportation to the Middle East and Caucasian countries faster and more comfortable.

Marmara and Southeastern Connection Strengthens with the Central Anatolian Highway

Minister Uraloğlu, who also made important statements about the Central Anatolian Motorway planned to be built between Ankara and the Akyazı district of Sakarya, stated that this project will provide a strategic contribution to regional transportation. Uraloğlu, who announced that the Central Anatolian Motorway will be built in a total length of 225 kilometers, 51 kilometers of which will be the main trunk and 276 kilometers of which will be connection roads, stated that the motorway will serve traffic with a total of 3 lanes, 3 inbound and 6 outbound. He stated that thanks to this important project, a faster and more direct connection of the Northern Marmara Motorway to the Ankara-Niğde Motorway will be established, thus significantly facilitating transportation between the Marmara Region and the Southeastern Anatolia Region.

Work Continues on 19 Highway Projects in Ankara

Minister Uraloğlu stated that transportation investments are not limited to highways only, and emphasized that highway infrastructure reinforcement works continue uninterruptedly all around Ankara. Reminding that Nallıhan Bridge, Nallıhan Bird Paradise Tunnel and connection roads have been opened to service, Uraloğlu said that many projects such as the Supreme Court Bridge Junction, Kızılcahamam Hospital Different Level Junction and Polatlı City Crossing have been completed and vehicle density has been reduced. He added that currently, works are intensively continuing on 29 different highway projects with a total project amount of 181 billion 19 million liras.

Cultural Heritage is Protected by Restoring Historical Bridges

Minister Uraloğlu, who stated that Ankara stands out not only with its modern transportation networks but also with its historical and cultural values, stated that cultural heritage is also being protected by restoring historical bridges. Uraloğlu, who said, “We are not only building modern roads, we are also protecting our history,” emphasized that important historical bridges such as Akköprü, Dağkaya Bridge, Etlik and Altındağ are being restored, both keeping cultural values ​​alive and making these works a part of the transportation infrastructure. These works are considered as an important indicator of Ankara’s vision of preserving its historical texture and carrying it into the future.
