An Environmentally Friendly Industrial Move from Ordu, an Exemplary World

Ordu is pioneering an environmentally sensitive and high value-added industrial initiative. The installation of the Active Carbon Facility, which is a first in the world, is progressing rapidly. This innovative facility will produce active carbon by processing hazelnut shells, an important agricultural product of the Black Sea Region, thus bringing an idle resource into the economy.

Hazelnut Shells Turn into High Value Added Products

Hazelnuts, one of the lifeblood of the Black Sea Region, were generally used as fuel for heating purposes with their shells until now. This situation is changing with the visionary approach of Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Mehmet Hilmi Güler. The Active Carbon Facility, which was implemented under the leadership of Mayor Güler, aims to transform hazelnut shells from being just fuel to a high value-added product that can be used in a wide range of sectors from the defense industry to medicine, from textiles to the food sector.

President Guler: “I Wish It Will Be Good for Our Army and Our Country”

Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Mehmet Hilmi Güler, who inspected the facility where the installation work continues uninterruptedly, drew attention to the importance of the project. Mayor Güler said, “This facility we have established in Ordu will be a strong example of both an environmentally friendly transformation and domestic production.”

President Güler continued his words as follows: “We will be the first in the world to produce active carbon from hazelnut shells. With this investment, hazelnut shells, which are now used only as fuel, are turning into a high value-added product used in many industrial sectors from defense to medicine, from medicine to clothing, from cleaning to the food industry. We will produce active carbon at world standards from hazelnut capsules and shells, which are considered waste. This facility we established in Ordu will be a strong example of both an environmentally friendly transformation and domestic production. It will contribute to our economy and inspire our industrialists. I hope this proud step will be beneficial to Ordu and our country.”

Final Stage in Facility Installation

The Active Carbon Facility, established in Ordu's Perşembe district, Efirli Neighborhood, is in full swing. 21 truckloads of machinery brought from abroad have been placed inside the facility. Currently, expert technical personnel from abroad and Ordu Metropolitan Municipality teams are meticulously installing these giant machines. It is expected that the facility will be operational in a short time and Ordu will make a name for itself with this innovative industrial move.
