
Konya Metropolitan Municipality’s important public service, Fenni Fırın, has increased its production capacity significantly with the opening of its second phase. Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay examined the new phase with members of the press and announced the good news that the daily bread production capacity has reached 150 thousand. Mayor Altay emphasized that their main goal is to balance the bread prices in the market and to offer citizens hygienic, quality bread at affordable prices.
Historical Heritage Revived
During the inspection, President Altay reminded that the roots of Fenni Fırın date back to 1927, but its activities were terminated in 1985 due to road widening works. President Altay stated that they revived this historical heritage by changing the name of “Halk Ekmek” to “Fenni Fırın” in August 2023, and stated that as of today, they produce 150 thousand loaves of bread daily in their modern facilities.
Untouched Hygienic Production
Emphasizing that Fenni Fırın is one of the most modern facilities in Türkiye, President Altay stated that the production process is carried out in accordance with hygiene standards without human touch. He stated that the flour stored in 9 30-ton stainless steel silos is turned into dough with fully automatic systems and is baked in 33-meter tunnel ovens without human touch and is delivered to the packaging stage.
Variety and Affordability
Stating that Fenni Fırın does not only produce standard bread, President Altay said that 90 thousand sandwich breads and 25 thousand bagels are also produced daily in the facility. He stated that bagels are sold for 5 liras under the brand name “BÜFEM”, and tea-bagel and ayran-bagel duos are sold for 10 liras and are delivered to citizens at the most affordable prices. He also noted that 8 thousand loaves of bread, which are the traditional flavor of Konya, are also produced by hand and that production of different varieties of bread such as sourdough and whole grain continues.
Good News of a New Technical Oven for Ereğli
President Altay announced that they started working to establish a new Technical Bakery in Ereğli, where there was no public bread at first, upon the intense demand from the districts. He gave the good news that the construction works were continuing next to the Ereğli State Hospital and that the people of Ereğli would have a Technical Bakery as soon as possible.
The goal is to balance the market
Emphasizing that the main purpose of Fenni Fırın is to balance the bread prices in the market, President Altay stated that it is not possible to meet all the bread needs of Konya with a daily capacity of 150 thousand breads, and that bakers are also an important part of this process. However, he stated that they have implemented this work so that citizens can buy quality bread at the most affordable price and in the most hygienic environment. Stating that sales are currently made in 52 kiosks and that Fenni Fırın provides important services to Konya with 122 personnel, President Altay thanked those who contributed and added that the work will continue in the future for citizens to reach healthy food.
