7. Tour of Mersin Bicycle Tour Begins

Mersin is preparing to host a major event that will excite sports fans and cycling enthusiasts under the leadership of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality. The 10th Tour of Mersin International Cycling Tour, which will start on April 7, will feature a fierce competition between 6 athletes from 33 different countries from 173 continents. The organization, which is shown by the Turkish Cycling Federation as the second largest cycling race in Türkiye after the Presidential Cycling Tour, will showcase the natural and historical beauties of Mersin and introduce the city's suitability for sports to the entire world.

450 kilometers of challenging track

During the four-day race, athletes will pedal to complete the approximately 450-kilometer course. The route, which passes through different districts of Mersin, will not only offer participants a sporting challenge, but will also provide an unforgettable experience with magnificent views stretching from the foothills of the Taurus Mountains to the unique shores of the Mediterranean.

Athletes will start the first leg of the tour from Anamur, pass through Bozyazı and Aydıncık and cycle 94.7 km. Athletes who will start the second leg from Gülnar will complete 125 km by pedaling through Mut, Silifke and Erdemli. The third day leg, which is 104.6 km and will start from Tarsus, will pass through the uniquely beautiful greenery of Çamlıyayla and will be completed in the Toros Mountains. In the last leg of the bike tour, athletes will pass through Akdeniz, Yenişehir and Mezitli districts and complete a 124.2 km track.

Mersin will be the meeting point of sports and tourism

The event organized by the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality is not just a sports race. A major organization aimed at increasing the city's tourism potential, the Tour of Mersin will offer a visual feast for both local and foreign spectators. During the race, athletes will pass through historical sites such as Cennet-Cehennem Sinkholes, Kızkalesi, Soli Pompeipolis Ancient City, and will have the opportunity to discover Mersin's cultural heritage and natural beauties.

Taşkın: “33 athletes from 173 different countries pedaled”

Youth and Sports Services Department Director Emrullah Taşkın provided information about the technical details of the 7th Tour of Mersin. Taşkın said, “It will be a great organization where athletes from all over the world, from a total of 6 continents and 33 different countries will participate. It is described by the Bicycle Federation as the second largest organization held in Türkiye after the Presidential Cycling Tour. 173 athletes, the majority of whom are foreign athletes, will participate. The world’s greatest cyclists will pedal here. It is an organization consisting of 4 stages in total and will last 4 days. Athletes will pedal nearly 450 kilometers.”

Sharing route information, Taşkın said, “We will start from Anamur pier on April 10. It will pass in front of Mamure Castle in Anamur and finish in front of Gilindire Cave. Our second stage starts in Gülnar and finishes in Erdemli. Our third stage starts in Tarsus, continues in Çamlıyayla and finishes in Ayvagediği plateau. The last stage will be held on the Mersin coast. Athletes will pass through the sea and plateaus, and will pedal while seeing historical places.”
