50 Percent State Contribution on Electricity Bills

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar emphasized that there is no new plan for an increase in electricity prices and said, "As the state, we continue to cover 50 percent of the bills."

Support Editing

Minister Bayraktar answered journalists’ questions about the electricity price hike before the AK Party Group Meeting held in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Bayraktar stated that they continue to provide electricity to citizens at prices well below normal costs, and said, “What has been done is an adjustment in the amount of this support. Therefore, we are still continuing the support.”

We have not reflected

Bayraktar said, “As of now, we continue to cover 50 percent of the bills as a state. This is the situation even with the latest prices. In fact, we have not reflected the costs,” adding that they will continue to support especially low- and fixed-income citizens.

Cost Based

Bayraktar, who reminded that they made a regulation in February regarding the provision of support to citizens in need, said, “We had started to reflect the cost of electricity to subscribers above a certain consumption. This was related to a 3 percent, 1,2 million subscriber segment. Apart from that, our support for the remaining 40 million subscribers will continue from now on.”

We Will Continue to Welcome

When asked, “You said the costs were not reflected, is a new increase expected in the near future?” Bayraktar replied, “We do not have such a plan. We will continue to cover this from the support budget.”
