'30° East Meridian Kocaeli' Exhibition Opens

Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality is enriching the city by taking important steps in the fields of art and culture as well as its industrial city identity. Seka Art Specialization Center, which was implemented on the Seka land, one of the largest industrial transformation projects in Türkiye, has become an important part of this vision by hosting valuable exhibitions. The center is preparing to host a special collection reflecting the unique identity of Kocaeli in the coming days.

A Journey to Art from Where Time Began in Türkiye

The 30° East Meridian, which is accepted as the starting point of time in Türkiye and passes through Kocaeli, is the source of inspiration for this special art collection. Hosted by the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, prepared under the leadership of experienced curator Prof. Dr. Uğur Batı and under the artistic direction of successful painter Akın Ekici “A Time Fractal” The exhibition aims to leave an artistic record of the city's rich history and cultural heritage. This impressive exhibition, which is one of the most comprehensive collections ever created in Kocaeli, can be visited from Friday, May 2 until Sunday, May 25.

Fractal Reflections of Time and the City

The exhibition focuses on the fact that the 30° East Meridian, which is accepted as the starting point of time in Türkiye, passes through Kocaeli, and addresses the city's unique relationship with time and space from an artistic perspective. In the works brought to life by painter Akın Ekici using contemporary techniques, Kocaeli's iconic architectural structures, fascinating nature and deep history are reinterpreted with fractal geometry and time cycle metaphors. Art lovers will have the opportunity to experience over 60 original works prepared with various techniques such as oil painting, batik, ceramics, kufi calligraphy, ma'kili calligraphy, silk printing and serigraphy.

Different Themes, A Rich Narrative

Each work in the exhibition deals with special themes reflecting different aspects of Kocaeli. Various themes such as “Industrial City Kocaeli”, “Natural Kocaeli”, “Gulf and Sea”, endemic “Keltepe Crocus”, “Four Seasons Kocaeli”, historical “1923 Flags”, “Blue Gulf”, symbolic “İzmit Clock Tower”, universal “Day Cycle”, “Kocaeli Birds” and “Kuva-yi Milliye” reflecting the spirit of national struggle will be presented to the audience with the powerful language of art. In addition, 6 impressive textile works and striking ceramic sculptures specially designed by the Fashion Academy are among the important and interesting pieces of the collection.

The Spirit of Art in Collaboration

This special collection does not only consist of original works by Akın Ekici; it is also enriched with the contributions of his valuable artist friends. The master of calligraphy İsmail Hakkı Gurbetçi, ceramic artist Esra Uyman, the original representative of batik art Mine Aydoğan, Gülen Turan known for his color works and Hayrettin Susam, one of the important names of print art, supported this meaningful project with their works. Özkan Kale undertook the impressive visual directorship of the exhibition.
