Founded in 1974 as one of Türkiye's first institutional foundations, Yaşar Education and Culture Foundation, which has undertaken projects aimed at social development in the fields of education, culture and art for over half a century, has added a new one to the archaeological excavation sites it supports.
Supporting archaeological excavations with the responsibility of carrying the historical and cultural heritage to future generations, Yaşar Education and Culture Foundation, Aydın/Nysa (1998), İzmir/Bayraklı After the excavations in Ancient Smyrna (2015), Izmir/Smyrna Agora (2017) and Konya/Çatalhöyük (2019), it also sponsored the excavations in the Ancient City of Amastris in the Amasra District of Bartın.
The excavations at Amastris, sponsored by Yaşar Education and Culture Foundation as the fifth ancient excavation site, are being carried out under the excavation chairmanship of Bartın University Archaeology Research and Application Center Director Prof. Dr. Fatma Bağdatlı Çam, and in coordination with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums. Excavations continue in the ancient city founded as Sesamos in the 7th century BC to bring to light the historical richness of Amasra and the region. Amastris, which was re-established by Queen Amastris during the Hellenistic period and hosted many civilizations such as Rome, Byzantium and Genoa, stands out with its Stoa structure from the Roman Period.
