
VIA Rail Canada has announced the appointment of Jonathan Goldbloom as chairman. Canada’s Minister of Transport Anita Anand will formally announce Goldbloom’s appointment on March 8, 2025, and he will begin his five-year term on April 12, 2025. Prior to assuming this role, Goldbloom has been actively utilizing his deep knowledge of the rail industry since joining the board of VIA Rail Canada in 2017.

The appointment of Jonathan Goldbloom is an important step in strengthening and developing VIA Rail Canada’s future operations. Goldbloom has served on various committees of VIA Rail over the years, helping to grow the organization. He will now lead the process to make rail services safer, more efficient and more environmentally friendly, working in line with the Canadian government’s transportation policies and goals.
Minister Anita Anand highlighted Goldbloom’s extensive transportation expertise, stating that the new president will strengthen Canada’s rail system and deliver efficient, safe and sustainable transportation services across the country. Under Goldbloom’s leadership, VIA Rail Canada’s goal is to make transportation more accessible and sustainable between Canada’s different regions.

Under Goldbloom’s leadership, VIA Rail Canada will focus on safety of rail service, environmentally friendly transportation solutions and access to remote areas of Canada, as well as a $1 million loan from the Canadian government to support the growth of rail technology.
