Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that highway traffic will be closely monitored instantly with Smart Transportation Systems during the Ramadan Feast holiday. Minister Uraloğlu stated that Orange Teams will continue to work on a 7/24 basis in areas with heavy traffic.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made a statement regarding the Ramadan Bayram measures taken on the highways. Minister Uraloğlu underlined that all precautions were taken on the national highway network due to the possible traffic density during the holiday.
Stating that they have taken all precautions to ensure that citizens can travel in peace, Minister Uraloğlu continued his words as follows:
“Our Orange Teams will continue to work on the busiest highways on a 7/24 basis. We continue our uninterrupted inspections in 18 regional directorates, 123 branch offices, 15 tunnel maintenance operations, 25 highway maintenance operations and 16 build-operate-transfer maintenance operations across the country,” he said.
Uraloğlu, who noted that instant monitoring and tracking will be carried out at the General Directorate of Highways Intelligent Transportation Systems (IUS) Center, as is the case during every holiday, said, “The signals and data collected from sensors, cameras and systems located at many important points of the highway network are coordinated through our IUS center.”
Road construction, maintenance and repair work may be suspended during the Ramadan holiday.
Uraloğlu stated that traffic signs were made in sections where road construction, maintenance and repair work was ongoing and where the physical standards of the road were low for various reasons, and that the previously made signs were reviewed. Uraloğlu also underlined that they would suspend work in sections where road construction, maintenance and repair work was carried out during the Ramadan holiday unless it was necessary.
Traffic Signs and Signboards Checked
Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that the highway network was checked and the deficiencies in traffic signs, guardrails, signaling systems and side posts were completed, and continued his words as follows:
“We ensured that dirty signs and traffic signs with reduced visibility were visible. In limited and exceptional cases where flood waters that may occur due to excessive rainfall exceed the carriageway, repair approach signs were placed at frequent intervals above the water level on the side of the carriageway. In cases where the carriageway narrows for various reasons, traffic will be directed using repair approach signs in sections that are not suitable for traffic due to landslides.”
“Traffic Safety is the Responsibility of All of Us”
Minister Uraloğlu said that in addition to the measures taken to ensure that citizens travel peacefully during the holiday and to prevent traffic accidents, drivers should also be careful, and said, “Ensuring traffic safety is everyone’s responsibility. Obeying speed limits, wearing seat belts and not using mobile phones while driving are vital for the safety of you, your loved ones and other people on the road.”
Uraloğlu emphasized that it is of great importance for drivers to obey warning signs and signals on the sections of the road where road construction, maintenance and repair are carried out and not to exceed the specified speed limit. Uraloğlu emphasized that drivers setting off on the same day and time during holiday departures and returns create traffic density above the road capacity on certain routes, and said, “In addition, our citizens can follow the instant changes in road conditions throughout the country from the ‘Road Conditions’ section on the official website of the General Directorate of Highways.”
