Konya has completed its first tender for the Konya Metro and tram lines to be implemented in order to strengthen its transportation infrastructure. The Konya Metro (HRS) Line and Fetih-Ahmet Özcan-Fatih Işıklar Tram Line Implementation Based Final Project Services tender was won by Yüksel Proje A.Ş., one of Türkiye's giant engineering firms. The firm had previously been among the architects of giant projects such as Marmaray, Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, Osmangazi Bridge and TOGG Gemlik Campus.
Metro Line to be Built Underground
The Alaaddin-Selçuk University line, Konya's first metro line, will contribute greatly to the city's transportation infrastructure. The section between Alaaddin and Konya Technical University will be built completely underground as a light rail system in metro standards. In addition to this line, the Fetih-Ahmet Özcan-Fatih Işıklar Tram Line is also among the projects that will ease Konya's transportation burden. Approximately 250 million liras will be paid to Yüksel Proje A.Ş. for these projects.
50 Year Transportation Vision
Konya aims to have one of the most modern transportation infrastructures in Türkiye with its rail system investments. Konya Metro will be supported by projects that will form the main transportation backbone of the city and facilitate access to industrial zones. Projects such as KonyaRay, City Hospital-New Industrial Site and New Industrial Site-Metropolitan Stadium Tram Line will also be integrated into the city. With the completion of these projects, Konya aims to become one of the cities with the longest rail system network in Türkiye.
Big Step in Transportation
These projects will contribute to the implementation of Konya's transportation vision for the next 50 years. It is expected that the transportation infrastructure in the city will be modernized and traffic congestion will be reduced. With these projects, Konya will make a major investment not only considering the present but also the future.
