The Italian government has decided to invest $4,3 billion to develop the Rome Metro’s Line C. This investment was made official with an agreement signed between the Rome city council and the ministry. Line C stands out as an important part of Rome’s efforts to modernize and expand its transportation infrastructure.
Line C Expansion and New Stops
Line C is 19 kilometers long and includes 22 operational stations. Experts predict that the line will be expanded to include three new stops, followed by the addition of six more. Construction of the three sections of Line C is scheduled to be completed by 2033. The new line will further improve Rome’s transportation infrastructure and make the way people travel more efficient.
Collaboration with Hitachi Rail
The new Line C is planned to feature driverless metro trains made by Hitachi Rail Italy, which are already in successful use in places like Milan and Greece. Hitachi Rail is known for providing reliability and modern technology in metro systems.
Rome Metro Modernization
In addition to expanding its metro network, Rome is also continuing to renew its existing fleet. A $2022 million deal was signed with Hitachi Rail in 284, which was planned to supply 30 new metro trains. 14 of these trains were ordered for Line B, while the remaining two will be delivered to Line A. Initial deliveries were originally planned for December 2024, but have since been moved to spring 2026. These new trains aim to provide a significant increase in comfort for Rome’s public transport system.
Investment Impacts and Objectives
The C Line expansion project will not only attract tourists but also increase mobility in Rome by making daily commutes easier for its residents. These heavy investments in the Italian capital are making the city more modern and accessible. With new metro trains, stations and modern technology, Rome’s public transport system will become more comfortable and efficient.
With such investments, the government aims to stimulate the growth of public transport across the country and to develop transport infrastructure in a more sustainable way. The completion of these projects will make a major contribution to Rome’s transport system, providing both the city and the country with a more modern transport infrastructure.
