Resistance to Tree Cutting in Çayırlı Village!

While the villagers' struggle against tree cutting for road construction in Çayırlı Village of Tire district of İzmir continues, nearly 10 thousand citizens supported the petition they started on Change.org with their signatures.

In the Tire district of Izmir, the struggle of the villagers against the cutting down of trees in Çayırlı village as part of the Tire-Belevi Highway expansion work to be carried out by the General Directorate of Highways continues. The villagers who are keeping watch against the cutting down of trees also started a petition on Change.org. Nearly 10 thousand citizens supported the petition with their signatures in a short time.

The villagers, who stated that they were victimized by the route change and urgent expropriation decision of the Tire-Belevi highway, which has a history of more than 10 years and whose construction was accelerated, said, “Thousands of pine, fig and olive trees will be cut down in our village. Our village, our lands, our trees are our living space, our livelihood, our everything. We are not against the construction of the road. However, the route of the road was changed suddenly. We demand that a different route be found.”

The villagers, who filed three lawsuits against the route change, are demanding that the cutting be stopped until the lawsuits are concluded.
