Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced a new action plan to prevent motorcycle accidents. In this context, Penalties for red light violations will be significantly increased and harsher sanctions will be imposed for repeat violations.
New Regulation on Red Light Penalties
Minister Yerlikaya, MOTOBIKE at Istanbul 2025 Fair shared the new penalty system in his statement. Accordingly, 5.000 TL fine for the first violation will be implemented and penalties will increase as violations increase:
- First violation → 5.000 TL fine
- Second violation → 10.000 TL fine
- Third violation → 15.000 TL fine + 30 days driver's license suspension
- Fourth violation → 20.000 TL fine + 60 days driver's license suspension
- Fifth violation → 30.000 TL fine + 90 days driver's license suspension
- Sixth violation → 80.000 TL fine + driver's license cancellation + eye examination requirement
This regulation aims to increase the deterrence of red light violations.
Driving License Cancellation and New Process
Within the scope of the new application, The licenses of motorcyclists who violate red lights 6 times in a year will be completely revoked.. These people can get their licenses back have to enroll in driving school from scratch and pass all the exams again will remain. Also, in order to get their license back, They will be required to undergo mandatory eye examinations.
Minister Yerlikaya, The majority of motorcycle accidents occur due to non-compliance with traffic rules. He stressed that these new penal measures will play a critical role in reducing accidents.
