Drawing attention to the recently increasing carbon footprint calculation and approval processes, Rüçhan Derici, Chairman of the Board of Directors of 3E Group Companies, which leads Türkiye's leading expert staff in the fields of foreign trade, sustainability and dangerous cargo logistics, said that the way to prevent these from creating confusion is to understand the rules, understand why they need to be done and create a harmonious roadmap.
Recently, we are faced with new sanctions in foreign trade due to developments within the scope of green transformation. While we are talking about carbon footprint, water footprint, energy efficiency, green logistics activities within the scope of sustainability, the implementation of technical legislation applications such as deforestation and VOC in 2025 and the implementation of structures that need to be focused on more deeply have started to take an important place on the agenda of large institutions. Institutions see the need to explain these issues to both their own process managers and suppliers, to have them implemented and to develop new business models for the management of risks originating from their suppliers.
Providing technical project and risk management services in accordance with international technical and administrative standards in the fields of sustainability, foreign trade and logistics, Mr. Derici said, “The series of issues that come to the agenda with carbon footprint processes actually provide an opportunity for the development of a management model that changes future technical planning and investment priorities, and it seems to fill our agenda this year as a threat with additional cost items starting from 2026 for companies that do not or cannot realize it. It is seen in line with our expertise that such projects, which are not calculated within cost items, will have an impact of 14% to 48% on approximate production costs depending on the sector and product groups. According to 2025 data, a process will be initiated with reduction targets of at least 2026% in 2,5, at least 2027% in 5, at least 2028% in 2,5, at least 2029% in 16, and 2030% starting from 12,5, and it will affect us as a chain of measures that must be taken for the continuation of life. In short, we will need to change our way of thinking and redesign our business models in line with technical data and technological developments.” Investments in digital tools, technological infrastructure and renewable energy sources, especially for supply chain traceability, are of great importance.
The steps taken for a better quality of life, not for bans, are pleasing.
Reminding that the areas that the rules in business life did not see at the beginning of the industrial revolutions should be re-evaluated with a new perspective on the ecosystem from the experiences of fire, earthquake, pandemic, development and use of new energy sources, climate change experienced today, Mr. Derici said, “In this context, there is a harmonization problem due to different steps and priorities within the scope of International Agreements, Regional Legislation Regulations and National Legislation. We developed and managed technical projects that provide social benefits by cooperating with the World Bank, United Nations, European Union and national civil society organizations. In these projects, we also presented future visions as projections with 15-year breaks. With our Turkey Projects, we offer our calculation, reporting, monitoring, technical consultancy, technical engineering, approval, process management and improvement studies within the scope of sustainability according to different scopes of needs. Upon the request of some countries, we started to introduce financing opportunities to companies in addition to our services. (Such as green transformation comprehensive international and national funds provided by the World Bank, EBRD and financial institutions.)
Change does not always have to require high costs, the parts that can be determined by making a cost-benefit analysis will be evaluated as an income and profit item in businesses, in addition to the project costs, with the reflection part. We serve the sector with pioneering methods and products in the design of improvement and more efficient processes in areas that fall within the scope of sustainability in every facility and field of activity, especially technical consultancy. In the next 10 years, when a planned reduction process will be experienced, we have started to prepare roadmaps specifically for companies, in order to determine which techniques and technologies companies will use to reduce their carbon footprints at which stage.
We are developing more widespread services every day with our business models that will provide the energy savings needed by the sectors, such as our exterior facade protection products that provide 400 W energy savings per hour per square meter, our products that develop alternative energy sources, our R&D studies that we have developed within the scope of our continuous measurement techniques, our new technological devices aimed at increasing lifespan and efficiency, etc.
As the dates of the European Union's process approach, it is time to perceive and implement seemingly complex requirements in a simplified manner. We should put a more careful and meticulous roadmap on our agenda in these steps carried out against time. 3E Group, which has adopted the mission of developing projects based on techniques and technologies to reduce anthropogenic impacts, will continue to serve our companies,” he said.
Our businesses, which have reached the awareness that investing in the future is actually an investment in the continuity of our own lives, seem to be able to take even more advanced steps in the coming years.
