Early Diagnosis of Aortic Aneurysm Saves Lives

Egepol Hospitals Cardiovascular Surgery Specialist Prof. Dr. Hakkı Kazaz said that early diagnosis saves lives against Aortic Aneurysm (ballooning), which is a genetic disease that does not show any symptoms.

Prof. Dr. Kazaz stated that Aortic Aneurysm occurs suddenly because it does not show any symptoms, and emphasized that people with this disease in their family should be examined starting from the age of 20.

Prof. Dr. Hakkı Kazaz, who provided information about the disease, said, “Aortic Aneurysm is a disease that occurs when the aorta of the heart expands or tears in and out. This is a genetic disorder; it is a process that begins with birth. While other heart diseases are more common after a certain age, the age of onset in this disease varies from person to person, regardless of age. The basis for the disease is the congenital deterioration of the structure of a protein that provides the integrity of the vessels in the aortic wall. Factors that increase the pressure on the vessels, such as hypertension, chronic cough and constipation, cause aneurysms. This disease can also be associated with diseases that we define as soft tissue diseases, which are congenital diseases that are transmitted through the genetic code and in which the body reacts to its own tissues.”

IF YOU ARE LATE THE RISK INCREASES

Prof. Dr. Hakkı Kazaz, who noted that early diagnosis and treatment saves lives in Aortic Aneurysm as in many diseases, said, “If Aortic Aneurysm is caught in the early stage and followed with the right follow-up strategy, it becomes a more successful and easier treatment process for the patient and the doctor, whether by surgical method or by repair methods from the groin and through the vein. If the incident is delayed and a tear occurs inside or outside, the risk of surgery can increase up to 10 times. The areas affected by the disease (brain, kidney or intestine) can also cause permanent organ damage that can eliminate the comfort of life.”

Prof. Dr. Kazaz finally said the following: “All individuals with aortic ballooning disease who have a first-degree blood relation in the family in any way should be checked at the age of 20 without waiting for any findings. Here, screening is performed according to the need with auxiliary methods such as echocardiography, abdominal ultrasound, chest and abdominal tomography. According to the screening results, follow-up strategies specific to that person are revealed. Treatment processes should definitely be carried out under the supervision of an experienced and expert physician in this regard.”
