Construction Materials Laboratory Saved 6 Million TL in 500 Years

By conducting quality control tests on materials used in infrastructure and superstructure at the Construction Materials Laboratory established within the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Water and Wastewater Administration (ASAT) General Directorate, approximately 6 million TL worth of public damage has been prevented in the last 500 years.

Established in 2019 within the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality ASAT General Directorate and approved by the Turkish Accreditation Agency (TÜRKAK) and the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE), the Construction Materials Laboratory makes a great contribution to the protection of public resources by ensuring the quality control of materials used in infrastructure and superstructure projects. Nearly 5 experiments are carried out in the laboratory, which consists of 150 main sections: thermoplastic, fresh concrete, reinforced concrete steel, soil-aggregate, hot asphalt and construction materials.

PUBLIC RESOURCES ARE PROTECTED IN THE BUILDING MATERIALS LABORATORY

Volkan Esertaş, a construction technician working at the Construction Materials Laboratory established within the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality ASAT General Directorate, said, “Our laboratory, established in 2019, is a laboratory that provides services at international standards, certified by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) and the Turkish Accreditation Agency (TÜRKAK). We conduct 5 different tests in 150 main sections in our laboratory. 21 of these have been accredited by TÜRKAK. The main purpose of the tests we conduct is to determine whether the materials used in the infrastructure and superstructure investments of both our own institution ASAT and other public institutions and organizations comply with the standards. We examine the material samples coming from the public institutions we serve according to their technical specifications and prevent the use of non-standard materials.”

WE PREVENTED 500 MILLION TL OF PUBLIC LOSS

Laboratory Chief Volkan Esertaş, who stated that they have prevented the use of approximately 450 km of pipes and many non-standard materials in projects since the day the laboratory was opened, said, “500 million TL worth of public damage has been prevented. We contribute to the most efficient use of public resources by increasing the quality of the infrastructure projects of the work carried out.”
