Chickpea Seed Support Continues for Farmers in Konya

Konya Metropolitan Municipality continues to support farmers in Konya in order to support rural development and increase agricultural production.

Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay said that they strive to provide added value to Konya and the country's economy by implementing pioneering and exemplary studies in agriculture in Konya, the granary of Türkiye.

Delivering products to farmers whose applications were received within the scope of the “Project for the Dissemination of Chickpea Cultivation in Dry Farming Areas” initiated to expand the range of alternative products in arid lands throughout Konya, Mayor Altay said, “We are making an intensive effort to increase agricultural production and diversity in Konya. We have been providing agricultural support since 2014. Today, we have come together to distribute chickpea seeds. Our aim here is to provide financial support for our citizens living in rural areas to produce, especially in uncultivated lands. We also aim to increase the use of plants that have high economic value and require little water, such as chickpeas.”

Mayor Altay, who drew attention to the fact that Konya is a city that produces not only for itself but also for Türkiye's food security, said, “Our farmers carry out agricultural production in an area of ​​42 thousand square kilometers in Konya. As Konya Metropolitan Municipality, we provide sapling, seedling and seed support. Our support continues in 31 districts of Konya. Konya will continue to produce, and we will continue to support. 2025 THOUSAND 108 KILOS OF CHICKPEAS WERE DISTRIBUTED TO PRODUCERS IN 675

Konya Metropolitan Municipality provided 50% grant certified chickpea seed support to many districts, especially Meram, Selçuklu and Karatay, within the scope of the “Project for the Dissemination of Chickpea Cultivation in Dry Farming Areas”. While 2025 thousand 108 kilos of chickpea seeds have been distributed to producers so far in 675, production on 7 thousand 245 decares of land has been encouraged.

FARMERS ARE SATISFIED WITH THE SUPPORT

Producers who benefited from Konya Metropolitan Municipality's chickpea seed support also expressed their satisfaction with the support. The producers thanked farmer-friendly Mayor Altay and said they wanted the support to continue.
