Local and National Party Chairman Teoman Mutlu called for a general amnesty, drawing attention to the occupancy rate in prisons. Mutlu said, “Prisons are overflowing. Prisoners are sleeping on the floor, prisons have become unmanageable. A general amnesty has now become a necessity.”
While politicians have been making statements one after another regarding the general and partial amnesty debates that have recently come to the fore, another call came from Teoman Mutlu, Chairman of the Domestic and National Party. Mutlu, who called on the Ministry of Justice and the government for a general amnesty, stated that the issue had reached a point where it could no longer be postponed, and made the following statements:
“Prisons are overflowing. Prisoners are sleeping on the floor, prisons have become unmanageable. I am saying this openly, an immediate amnesty must be issued. The scope of the amnesty is already under the authority of the Parliament. Do not grant amnesty to any crime that society does not want. However, do a public opinion poll and see that 80 percent of the public supports amnesty.”
“PUT YOUR HAND ON YOUR CONSCIENCE”
Emphasizing that the general amnesty request should not be evaluated only on the basis of the criminals, Teoman Mutlu said that there is also a large segment of the population that is victimized due to economic difficulties. Local and National Party Leader Mutlu continued his words as follows:
“Today, tens of thousands of drivers cannot make a living because they lost their licenses for various reasons. 50 percent of our tradesmen have been blacklisted by banks. Pandemic, earthquake, economic crisis… All of these have caused people to be unable to pay their debts. These people need to be given a one-time opportunity. Put your hand on your conscience. Forgiveness relieves society. It relieves the market. Today, none of the political parties can oppose general amnesty anymore. The issue is mature enough.
“IF WE CAN MAKE APO TALK, WE HAVE TO LOOK AT THE PEOPLE’S VICTIMIZATION”
“If we can confront the terrorist leader Apo and talk about his calls, we also have to talk about the grievances of our people. What harm could there be in pardoning these citizens of ours once? The Turkish Century is adorned with slogans of ‘Turkey without Terror’, but let’s not forget that one of the basic conditions of social peace is justice. Justice is not only about punishing, but sometimes it is also about taking steps to ensure social peace. Turkey should make a new start with a general amnesty in order to ensure social peace and ease the economy. Listen to the voice of the people, restore social peace with a fair amnesty arrangement.”
