Following the Karataş Overpass, the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has also opened the Bornova Altındağ Overpass. The pedestrian overpass, which connects the streets in the Altındağ Cemetery area, has eased pedestrian transportation and has been appreciated by the locals with its modern structure and lighting.
Continuing its investments for comfortable and safe transportation, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has opened the Altındağ Cemetery Pedestrian Overpass located on the express way between the Buca Onat Tunnel and the bus station. Thanks to the overpass connecting 4416 Sokak, 4495 Sokak and surrounding streets in the Bornova Altındağ Cemetery area, the distance citizens have to walk to cross the road has been shortened by one kilometer. The 47-meter-long, 5,5-meter-high, 3-meter-wide, elevator-equipped overpass has also been appreciated by local residents with its modern appearance and colorful lighting.
“Our citizens are very satisfied”
Stating that the overpass is one of the important needs of the region, Bornova Zafer Neighborhood Headman Ali Tek said, “We could not connect to three streets because the road was passing through. It was difficult to cross the street. We had to walk around a lot for this. We conveyed this issue to the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, thank God they did not say ‘no’ to us. We thank the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. With the construction of the overpass, this problem has been eliminated. It is also very beautiful in the evenings thanks to the lighting. Walking here has become enjoyable. Our citizens are very pleased.”
“It was like the Road of Love”
Mehmet Mutlu, a resident of Zafer Neighborhood, stated that he lives very close to the overpass and said, “There used to be accidents here. Now they don’t. We used to walk almost a kilometer to cross the street. It was very good for the elderly, the residents of the neighborhood and the youth. The bridge has turned into the Love Road thanks to the lighting. Young people come out and walk around at night. I live close to the overpass. I am very happy that the overpass has been built in our area.”
“We did not expect anything like this”
Yusuf Aras, a 30-year resident of the neighborhood, said, “I have been living in this neighborhood for 30 years. We could walk long distances from the top and cross to the other side. I respect those who built this overpass and thank those who contributed. Our overpass turned out very nice. We did not expect something like this. It is a wonderful overpass with its modern appearance, elevator and lighting. I thank both the person who built it and the person who had it built. You should see this place in the evenings.”
